There are interesting reports about the fate of the Diablo brand on Kotaku. According to them, Blizzard is currently working on Diablo 4 (codename: Fenris), which is reminiscent of the darker “two “. In addition, it came to light that the developer had planned a second big addition to Diablo III, and the fourth part of the series initially was supposed to resemble Dark Souls.

Diablo Immortal Dark Climate
Initially, after completing Reaper of Souls, the studio was supposed to develop a second edition of comparable sizes, but the project was abandoned.

One of the noisiest events of this month was the announcement of Diablo Immortal, the mobile version of the popular brand. The disclosure of the project was met with a very negative reaction of fans of the series. The excitement has reassured the reports that the Blizzard Studio is also working on Diablo 4, but it has encountered problems in production and for this reason, it is not yet ready to officially reveal this game. Now we have learned a lot more about the fourth installment of the cycle, thanks to the article published on Kotaku site.

Diablo III deleted DLC, project Hades and Diablo Immortal Dark Climate

To understand the current situation, brands should go back to Diablo III. The game sold well, but it had a lot of problems. Most of them were repaired by patches and the Heat adopted Reaper of Souls. However, the director of the studio considered that there was no point in investing in this production and the work on the second enlargement was abandoned. Part of the staff departed, the part was moved to other teams, and the remaining group of developers began production of the fourth part, which functioned under the code name Hades.

Diablo Immortal Dark Climate
Dark Souls was a source of inspiration for the abandoned Hades project.

Hades had a lot of dissent from what fans of the series became accustomed to. Instead of the isometric Hack’n’slash, we had to get the RPG action in the style of the Dark Souls series, where the camera would be placed behind the hero’s backs. The changes were so large that many people in the studio doubted whether the project would be presented as a new part of the cycle. Eventually, after two years of production, work on the game was paused, as it did not have the chance to achieve Blizzard Entertainment’s typical quality.

Fenris, or Diablo Immortal

After the deletion of the project, Hades was returned to the third part, creating the DLC Rise of the Necromancer, and then the team took the production of a fourth part of the cycle, which now operates under the name Fenris. The authors abandoned a slight cartoonist stylist “three” and put on a very dark climate, modeled on Diablo II – full of brutality and views that could even provoke disgust.

Fenris is at an early stage of production and will wait at least until the 2020 year. The current version of the game uses a traditional isometric camera, but the team wonders whether or not to change it. MMO elements have been reinforced, drawing inspiration from the Destiny series. Cities serve as hubs where we can meet other players and assemble a team to embark on more traditional instances of the missions.

This raises the question of why Fenris was not revealed at BlizzCon, which would alleviate the negative reaction caused by Diablo Immortal. Careful study is due to the experience of the erased MMO Titan. In the end, his rubble was the hit Overwatch, but abanding the project after many years of its announcement is something that the developer has no intention of repeating. That’s why Diablo Immortal will be officially revealed only when Blizzard is confident that the game will be completed and fans will not have to wait for a long time.
